Relaxed loft living in a city townhouse

Our studio reworked the first and eaves floors of this Edwardian townhouse. A new dormer loft extension houses the main bedroom and ensuite, showcasing a relaxed mix of materials, including a birch plywood ceiling, plus an exposed brick wall and steel beam for a softly industrial note. Form and function marry seamlessly, with built-in wardrobes made from blackened ply maximising the potential of the space, while a generous bobbin-framed mirror slides open to reveal the bathroom. Designed to echo the sense of nature beyond, textures such as sisal merge with a soft plaster pink palette. On the first-floor landing, a wall-mounted ladder made from scaffolding leads to a playful reading nook carved out from the dead space in the eaves – making an ideal cubby hole for children.
